Inferno is an “anti-pick up” styled survival strategy card game. The aim is to be the last surviving player. To do this you will need to collect cards to help you avoid negative events. However, whenever you pick up a card, you expose yourself to danger and the chance to be eliminated from the game. The cards which help you navigate the deck do not only help you avoid danger, but can strategically place your opponents closer to their demise. Their demise is your survival. There can only be one survivor!
The deck contains 72 cards.
Recommended for between 3-8 players
This game is designed for players aged 13+.
The aim of the game is to be the last player alive. You will achieve this by avoiding the Death card.
The cards you pick up will assist you in avoiding the Death card.
1) The Dealer must remove all the Life, Death and Event cards from the deck.
2) Deal one Life card to each player. Place the remaining Life cards (if any) into the deck.
3) Shuffle the Deck and Deal four more additional cards to all players. All players should now have five cards
including their Life card.
4) Shuffle # of Death cards equal to the number of players into the deck.
5) The player left of the Dealer will play first and play will proceed in a clockwise direction.
Each player on their turn will need to make a choice to either pick up a card or play a card (or multiple cards).
If a player picks up a card. They must first see if the card is an Event card. If it is, it cannot be put into their hand.
Instead it must be played instantly. Any other card type can be put into their hand and that will end their turn.
If a player decides to play a card instead. There must be an opportunity for an opponent to decide if they want to prevent the player from completing the action. This can be done with a Power card. If no Power card is played, the player is entitled to complete the action of the card.
The card types are located at the top of the card.
I - A level one card does not end your turn.
II - A level two card may end your turn according to the card's condition.
III - A level three card will always end your turn, unless a Power card has been played.
POWER - These cards do not have to be played on your turn. But must be played before an action has been completed.
SPECIAL - These cards have special abilities or circumstances when played.
EVENT - These cards cannot be placed in a player’s hand. They are actioned immediately once picked up.
Your party can decide in which combination of events you wish to play with.
You cannot have an Event or Death card in your hand at any time.
During any situation where an Event is drawn from the Grave. It must be actioned again (including Death). In the instant of Inherit, it must be actioned in the same order as the cards were dealt.
After any shuffle of any deck during game-play - an opponent can request a cut of the deck before it is placed back on to the table.
The Grave pile can be assessed upon a player’s turn (also known as Grave Visiting). This consists of viewing the top two cards for the purpose of potentially playing a Special move.
Because Power cards can be played at any time. A Scrimpton with these cards could occur at any time.
Any card that requires the use of the Grave must have # of cards in the Grave, equal to # of active players (before the card has been played).
These are considered special plays which are outside the normal pick up and play conditions.
Junior Scrimpton - This is when you play two of the same cards at the time during your turn. When this is carried out the player of this move must shuffle the Grave pile face down, and deal themselves one card. They will place the Grave pile back face up and
continue their turn. Effectively trading two cards for one.
Senior Scrimpton - This is when three cards have been matched on top of the Grave pile. When this has been played successfully, the player of this move must shuffle the Grave pile face down and deal themselves two cards.
They will place the Grave pile back face up and
continue their turn. Effectively trading three cards for two.
